Artist in residence

Artist Caro Inglis will be working as Artist in Residence at blueSCI from February 2010.

"At the centre of my practice is a desire to engage, interact and share experiences with people through the process of designing and making. I work in an area between digital technology and craft, and am drawn to exploring ideas through this mixture. Current work is focused on digital design, paper making and glass - combining these materials together. Sharing skills and expertise is important to me - I find it much more fun to work that way.

Being involved with blueSCI will be part of that collaborative process for me - and a chance for me to explore some of my favourite things. Paper making combined with structure and perforation has been something Ive been wanting to investigate further. People at blueSCI can be involved in the project with skills and expertise being shared in the process. Discovering how craft and digital processes can feed each other seems good. The whole point of it all is to share and enjoy the process of being creative with no pressure to achieve a fixed outcome."

Caro recently completed an MA in Design at MMU.
"This has strengthened my belief in the transformative effect of engaging with the creative process with no fixed outcome in mind. Allowing the making process to guide me towards the outcome. Working collaboratively was an important part of the course and this is something I am continuing to do through projects in both glass and paper making.

When starting work on a new project I often begin with photography. I like recording what is sometimes overlooked and undervalued.

From 2001 to 2008 I have been focused on producing artwork for environments people spend time in - mainly offices and homes. Recently the focus has been more on Health environments. A recent commission for Lytham Primary Care Centre involved a mixture of digitally printed canvases and vinyl manifestations, together with kiln formed, sandblasted and hand painted glass."
