Talking Therapies

Low intensity CBT

Low Intensity CBT Interventions can help you explore how life events or circumstances can impact on your physical health, your behaviour and your thoughts. An initial assessment is undertaken by a Primary Care Mental Health Worker together with you to establish the areas you would like to work with first. This is then followed by five sessions of guided self-help that can include any of the following:

Behavioural Activation (getting more active)

Cognitive Restructuring (challenging negative thinking)

Medication Management (information on medication to make an informed choice)

Exposure Therapy (gradually doing things you find difficult and may have avoided)

Problem Solving (looking at pros & cons of a problem to aid decision making)

Managing Panic (understanding physical symptoms of panic)

Sleep hygiene (How to get a better sleep pattern)

Six sessions of Low Intensity CBT Interventions using guided self-help resources aims to provide you with the tools and techniques to become your own therapist, drawing upon these new skills as and when you need to.
