Talking Therapy Trainees

We have between 15 and 20 trainees volunteering with Bluesci at any one time, mainly offering Person Centred Counselling or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. We recruit for trainees as and when needed. If you are looking for a placement, please complete the application form on this page, emailing it to volunteering@bluesci.org.uk. Your application will be stored until a position becomes available when we would contact you to check if you still require a placement and to offer an interview.

We require trainees to be on a reputable course (at least Level 4), and to have been signed off by their training provider as competent to practice. We also require trainees to have their own supervision arrangements, insurance in place and membership of an accrediting body such as the BACP or BABCP by the time they start placement with us.

We also ask that all trainees provide three voluntary hours per week on top of their clinical and administrative hours. This gives you the opportunity to be involved in the wider service and to develop additional skills whilst on placement. We do appreciate that this may not be suitable for everyone – please only apply if you can commit to providing the additional voluntary hours whilst on placement.

Frequently Asked Questions

We only support adults so you need to be aged 18 and above to volunteer with us.

Yes you can, with limitations in some circumstances.

We are required to complete Disclosure and Barring Service [DBS] checks, which are criminal record checks conducted to assess an individual’s suitability for employment or volunteering, particularly in roles involving children or vulnerable adults. These checks help employers make informed hiring decisions by vetting potential employees or volunteers against criminal records.

However, having a criminal record does not automatically prevent you from volunteering with us. We consider each case individually and are committed to being inclusive and supportive.

No you don’t! Whilst having a qualification could be advantageous, we value your life experience and willingness to make a difference. We provide an induction and training to help you settle into your role and to get the most out of volunteering.

You can give as much time as you are able to – even a couple of hours a week makes a huge difference.

All volunteers receive a full induction to introduce them to the organisation, and become confident in their role. We have mandatory training, like Safeguarding training which all volunteers are asked to complete. We also offer training opportunities to help you build skills and confidence in a range of areas from Mental Health awareness to Conflict Resolution.

Yes, we reimburse reasonable expenses for volunteers and have a Volunteer Expenses policy which is made available to all volunteers.

Yes you can. The easiest way to get a physical application form is to visit one of our Centres and ask at reception. Alternatively, you can email Val Maclean, Volunteer Coordinator at volunteering@bluesci.org.uk

Please contact Val Maclean, Volunteer Coordinator at volunteering@bluesci.org.uk to arrange a phone call or a meeting in person to talk through any questions you have.

We make every effort possible to accommodate adjustments and support for volunteers. The best thing to do is contact Val Maclean, Volunteer Coordinator at volunteering@bluesci.org.uk to arrange a discussion about your needs. This will allow us to hear from you about your needs and for us to think if we can provide these.
